The Barang Mountain Tunnel

The Balang Mountain Tunnel is located in Xiaojin County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is an important tunnel on Sichuan Provincial Road 303 (Yingxiu to Rilong Tourist Road). The tunnel is approximately 4.2 kilometers long and passes through the Balang Mountain Pass at an altitude of about 4,500 meters. It is one of the highest-altitude highway tunnels in China. The construction of the tunnel has significantly reduced the driving time from Chengdu to the Four Sisters Mountain Scenic Area and enhanced traffic safety. In September 2016, the Balang Mountain Tunnel was officially opened to traffic, becoming an important transportation hub in the western Sichuan region.
