The Xihoumen Cross-Sea Bridge in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province

The steel box girder suspension bridge with a main span of 1,650 meters ranked first in China and second in the world when it was completed, and is hailed as "the No. 1 Bridge in China". The bridge is a project supported by the national "11th Five-Year Plan" Science and technology Support Program and was completed and opened to traffic in December 2009. The project incorporates a number of advanced technologies in modern bridge construction and represents the top level of bridge construction in China in the 21st century. It has won numerous engineering awards, including the International Bridge "Gustav Lindesar" Award, the Fidic Outstanding Project Award, the Luban Award, the Zhan Tianyou Civil Engineering Award, and the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of the China Highway Society.
